Executive Team

Curtis Philippon’s role as Executive Vice President oversees the Canadian Superior Propane and Superior Gas Liquids business units in addition to being the President of Certarus.  Curtis originally joined Certarus as the Vice President Finance & CFO in June 2014 and progressed to Certarus President & CEO in November 2016 and EVP Superior Plus in February 2024.  Prior to joining Certarus he was in senior roles at Enerflex/Toromont, Cathedral Energy Services and Weldwood/International Paper.  Curtis holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta, a CPA CMA designation an MBA from the University of Calgary.

Natasha Cherednichenko previously held the role of Vice President for Water and Flowback Services for TETRA Technologies, responsible for strategic direction, innovative technology, personnel development, and operational efficiency, as well as driving profitability and HSEQ performance. Prior to joining TETRA in 2019, she held a variety of operational and functional leadership roles over a 16-year career with Schlumberger, and has experience across all major US unconventional basins, Latin America, Australia, and Europe.

Natasha holds Bachelor of Chemical Engineering and Bachelor of Commerce degrees from Monash University in Australia, and a Masters in Oil and Gas Management from Heriot-Watt University in Scotland.

Aashish Christian joined Certarus in 2020 and has held multiple leadership roles within Operations & Logistics Management while focusing on operational efficiency, cost reduction and process improvement. Aashish has over 17 years of experience in various capacities within Supply Chain. Prior to joining Certarus he has worked in energy, transportation, railway, retail, and supply chain solution industries.

Aashish holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and Economics from Western Michigan University.

Chi Fang possesses 15+ years of technology and business experience, and has overseen Certarus’ IT, Software Development and Business Intelligence functions since 2019.  Prior to joining Certarus, he founded an internet start-up focused on e-learning, and consulted for fast-growing companies in the tech sector.  Earlier in his career, Chi worked for ATCO in Corporate Finance & Planning, as well as for HSBC in Investment Banking.

Chi holds a Bachelor of Commerce from McMaster University, and a CFA designation.

Dan Messina joined Certarus in early 2021 and brings over a decade of experience in the energy sector. He worked up from a role in the field with Baker Hughes, growing into sales management, and eventually global business development. His proven track record of leadership and creating simplified solutions for complex customer problems positions him perfectly to continue to support our growing renewable natural gas partners.

Dan holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from California State University Monterey Bay.

Delfino comes to Certarus with over 20 years of Health, Safety and Environmental experience. Prior to joining Certarus, he held the role of Global HSE Manager at TETRA Technologies, where he managed and developed HSE strategy, programs, and practices for the water & flowback division across the US, Canada, United Kingdom, and Latin America. Throughout his career, Delfino has consistently strived to be at the forefront of health, safety and environmental leadership.

Denyel Sears joined the Certarus team in 2014, focusing on corporate governance and financial reporting. Denyel is a CPA, CGA with 15 years of financial experience in varying capacities. Prior to joining Certarus Denyel held the positions of Divisional Controller and Assistant Controller at Enerflex Ltd. and Corporate Controller at GLBH Corporate Services.

Denyel holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta.

Jon Ozirny joined Certarus in January 2022. Prior to Certarus, Jon spent over 7 years at Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer LLP, with a practice focused in corporate and commercial transactions in the energy sector, including asset and share acquisitions and dispositions, commercial contracts, corporate reorganizations and equity financings; and spent one year as in-house legal counsel with a Calgary-based exploration and production company. Prior to law, Jon also spent 3 years in business at an Edmonton-based heavy truck vendor.   

Jon holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Alberta and a Juris Doctor from the University of Saskatchewan.

Marie Vernon joined the Certarus team in January 2022.  With over 20 years of experience in human resources and labor relations in government, private and public sectors, Marie is a strategic HR leader who drives talent management, organizational excellence, and employee engagement.  Prior to Certarus Marie held the role of HR Director at Packers Plus Energy Services and led a team of international HR professionals providing valuable insights into different cultural contexts and global HR practices across multiple regions.    Marie holds a Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation and is a graduate of the University of Calgary’s Human Resources Program, General Management Program, Adult Learning Program and Yale’s Executive Education Women’s Leadership Program.

Marshall Zurovec is an accomplished sales leader in the energy industry, having served in a variety of field and office based roles. Prior to joining Certarus, Marshall held positions at Baker Hughes from the field level to National Account Manager, and also worked as Vice President of Energy Business Development at Duff & Phelps.

Marshall holds degrees in Political Science and Geographic Information Systems from The University of Texas at Austin.

Richard Cheng comes to Certarus with over 20 years of engineering and leadership experience in equipment design and project execution in the energy industry. Prior to joining Certarus, he spent four years at a small-scale LNG operating company, where he managed the design and development of an LNG export facility. Richard has also held leadership roles developing projects for gas processing, gas-fired and geothermal power generation in the US, Europe, Asia and the Caribbean Islands. 

Richard holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley.

Ryan Hesketh joined Certarus in 2021 with over 20 years of equipment design and project experience in the energy sector in roles focused on gas compression and power generation.  Prior to joining Certarus, he held various engineering, product-line, and leadership roles at Enerflex Ltd., and has experience working on projects throughout Africa, the Americas, Australia, and Europe. 

Ryan holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calgary and is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta.

Ryan Hyland joined the Certarus team in 2019, focusing on technical sales. Prior to joining Certarus, Ryan spent 10 years working in downhole completion technologies in engineering, field operations and sales roles.

Ryan holds a Diploma in Petroleum Engineering from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology.
